Minister Rhoda Arrindell to present her thesis at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library

On Monday November 28th, Minister Rhoda Arrindell will give a special presentation about her thesis : Language, Culture and identity in St Martin” at the library. On May 21st of this year Minister Arrindell successfully defended this thesis and graduated Summa-cum Laude as Doctor in Philosophy at the University of Puerto Rico.

St. Maarten Day Scavenger Hunt

On St. Maarten’s Day 2011 eager teams took part in the scavenger hunt hosted by The Philipsburg Jubilee Library. This was our fun way of informing the community about Sint Maarten’s history and it served also as a means to raise funds for the Library. The winning Team was “The Optimistic Pessimists” followed by “The Pelicans”.

Staff seminar library about team building

From October 29 until November 1st the staff of the Philipsburg Jubilee Library enjoyed a historical staff seminar at Duzon’s restaurant in Cole bay. It was the first time in the history of the library a staff seminar was held. Central theme of the seminar was ‘ team building’. The seminar kicked of with a cultural dinner party on Sunday evening.

Donation Island Gems to Children’s section Philipsburg Jubilee Library

Young visitors of the library can now enjoy their books on some new solid wooden tables and chairs. This new furniture was a generous donation by the Island Gems Charity Foundation.
Know Your Country

Know Your Country

Tonight the Philipsburg Jubilee Library is hosting the last chapter in the “Power of Knowledge” Series titled: “Know Your Country!”
There will be music, a short lecture about the history of St. Maarten and a display of food from the various cultures represented on the island. Also a photography exhibit of the history of St. Maarten is displayed in the central hall of the library.
Children’s Book week 2011

Children’s Book week 2011

From the 20th to the 27th of November, Children’s Book week 2011 will be promoting reading and the love of nature and animals in books. Our theme this year is “Nature and Animal Stories”. Under the slogan: “Read Green, Live Green… All the Cool Kids love Animals” Our opening mini parade and Read – A- Thon on Sunday 20th of November 2011, on the library’s parking lot and in the library’s hall will kick off the many activities that are scheduled.

Cineclub St. Maarten presents Monday November 14th, the movie “Me Too” at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library at 7.30 pm. Ticket office opens at 7.00 pm.
Library closure

Library closure

From Sunday the 30th of October to November 1st the library staff will be attending a seminar. In connection with the abovementioned the office / library will be closed to the general public on Monday 31st October and Tuesday November 1st, 2011. All books due on the first will be extended.

Draw or paint a portrait of the Queen, prince Willem Alexander or princess Maxima.
The art work should have a minimum size of 16”x 20” or 40 cm x50 cm; The work must be framed to hang;
Only one entry per person is allowed; The artwork has to be delivered at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library on Saturday October 22nd, 2011, between 10 am. and 1 pm. we will not accept entries on any other day or time.
