During the month of September PJL intends to offer another variety of literacy experiences to its patrons and the community at large by offering programs that will highlight the fact that reading is and will always be the fundamental aspect of one’s development.

Importance of reading
It was in the year 1923, that Queen Wilhelmina celebrated her silver jubilee. In the same year, the founders of the Library recognized the necessity and importance of reading by all.

Introduction
Around the world, many are facing challenging times as society goes through waves of unfortunate events. Here on the island of St. Maarten there’s no difference, but through life hardships, we as humans adapt and use creativity and acquired wisdom to make the best of any situation. As a community, we motivate and teach each other about different aspects of life that we can all benefit from.

For the next Power of Knowledge lectures of this year, the library has invited Mr. Lenworth Wilson and
Mr. Rolando Tobias. Mr. Wilson will speak on how to process the past, practice good habits and prepare
and plan for the future, while Mr. Tobias will speak on financial planning and budgeting. These sessions
will be broadcast on the library’s Facebook page and in the local media, starting August 11th , 2020.
