Library and Lucinda “La Rich” Audain to host 4th Edition of Spoken Lyrics

The objective of this collaboration is to promote and stimulate local up and coming entertainers to participate in sharing their work with the general public, with hopes of inspiring patrons to create works of their own to share. “Many supporters have requested the return of Spoken Lyrics after the great response from last year’s 3rd edition at Axum Café, “Green Light”. These sessions gave undiscovered talent the opportunity to showcase their work during each night’s open mic session”, stated Lucinda Audain of La Rich Arts & Entertainment. Specific Fridays in the month of July & August will be dedicated specifically to the Spoken Lyrics sessions in the Library’s brand new Lounge area. Each event will begin at 8:00 pm with lounge music and cocktails and light snacks to allow persons to get comfortable. At 8:30pm, the program will begin with the featured artists with brief interludes. The final hour is the open mic session for the general public to share their work based on the theme of the evening. This Fridays Spoken Lyric Session will be themed “Drums of Fire”, in commemoration of Emancipation Day. Featured Artists for the evening will be Maguada Jackson, Melissa Fleming, Merlina Aventurin and Juliana Alexander. Special guest drummers will be Shabba & d’ Jimbe Drummers. This session will fuse spoken word and the drum to create a rhythmic call and response interaction between artists and the public. “At the core of our library’s mission is to facilitate and provide access to cultural expressions of all performing arts. Events like these give us the opportunity to create a space where the public and artists get an opportunity to interact not only for the advancement of literacy, but also to promote creative expression”, remarked Morenika Arrindell, Library Public Relations Officer.
