This week the Philipsburg Jubilee Library will receive a visit by influential and respected retired former Director of the American Library Association’s (ALA) Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS), mrs. Satia Marshall Orange
Library activist Satia Marshall Orange visits Sint Maarten
. Aside from being a former director of the ALA, Satia Marshall Orange is a motivational speaker and a civil rights activist. The general public is invited to a special information session with Satia Marshall Orange on Thursday October 29th between 7.00 and 9.00 pm in the Philipsburg Jubilee Library.

The ALA is a largest and oldest library association in the world. During Satia Marshall Orange’s directorship at the Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS) at the ALA, mrs. Orange was a passionate leader and activist. She was instrumental in enhancing the ALA’s support for numerous outreach programmes in various communities in the US.

In addition to visiting the Philipsburg Jubilee Library, during her six-day visit, Satia Marshall Orange will also be meeting with the Governor of Sint Maarten, Mr. Keith Franca, the Director of the SMDF, the acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Jorien Wuite and other influential persons. The purpose of her visit to Sint Maarten will be to motivate and train library staff, to mobilize support for literacy and outreach programmes for socially disadvantaged persons on our island and to provide advice to the Philipsburg Jubilee Library on how to enhance its literacy and outreach activities. Mrs. Orange will also meet with the SXM reads committee consisting of COME Centre, UNESCO and the Rotaract Sunrise club.

On Thursday, October 29th, Mrs. Satia Marshall Orange will be the main speaker at an information session for the general public. This information session will take place between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm at the library.
