The Survival Guide to living in the Netherlands was established in 2016 by the Unified St. Maarten Connection with the primary goals of preparing secondary school students for their tertiary education in the Netherlands, provides information, and knowledge to young professionals recently graduated and ready to enter into the job market in the Netherlands and/ or interested in returning to the islands after completing their journey in the Netherlands. Unified St. Maarten Connection (USC) is a non-profit foundation founded in the Netherlands in 2012 with the goal of building unity among aspiring students and young professionals from St. Maarten, St. Eustatius, and Saba residing in the Netherlands and on St. Maarten. The USC manual has been written by a dedicated group of talented, motivated young professionals with experience with living in the Netherlands. The dedicated group found their own unique ways and approaches for a happier student life and successful academic experience in the Netherlands and felt that with this manual that they can further assist potential aspiring students towards a successful experience. Sound advice is provided on critical social issues that better prepares students for their journey to the Netherlands. In 2018 USC published their fourth version of its Student manual, a guide to moving and living in the Netherlands. This year, the guide included information regarding the process of students returning students to the islands. The guide is an effective means to assist in the transition from living on St. Maarten to living and settling within the Netherlands, as most students from the Dutch Caribbean face nostalgia and culture differences as they integrate into a new environment. The sole copy that was given to the Philipsburg Jubilee library will be placed in the archives with viewing possibilities on the premises.
